Who we are

Aashaan is built by Team Aashaan in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. We started in 2023 with a single goal: make learning to read any Indian script quick, focused, and genuinely enjoyable, rather than a months-long slog through rote alphabet drills.

How the method works

Indian scripts have hundreds of unique shapes - Malayalam alone has close to 200 letters and symbols, and Hindi adds a large set of conjunct consonants. Many are rarely used. Instead of teaching them in traditional alphabetical order, Aashaan introduces the easiest and most frequently used letters first, so that by unit 20 of 50 a learner can already read roughly 80% of everyday printed text. Every word and sentence in a unit uses only the letters taught up to that point.

How our content is made

All audio in Aashaan is recorded by native speakers, so learners hear each letter and word pronounced authentically. Every letter also comes with an on-screen handwriting exercise using guided stroke paths, and there is a dedicated Writing Course covering the full letter set of each language. In total the app spans 4000+ words across 50 units.
